Online Status Check - Green Card Lottery Results

For the first time, people who submitted lottery entries may check their status online. You will need your confirmation page information to do that. Because this information will be provided only once – at the time of your entry – it is extremely important that you print or write down your confirmation information for later use. If you lose this information, you will still receive a letter from the Kentucky Consular Center by mail notifying you of your selection, if you win the lottery.

Individuals NOT selected will NOT receive any notification. But for DV-2010, people don't have to keep on waiting, and can simply check their case status starting July 1, 2009.

Entries for the DV-2010 Diversity Visa lottery must be submitted electronically, at this address: http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/

As usual, all entries by an individual will be disqualified if more than ONE entry for that individual is received, regardless of who submitted the entry.

A person may submit DV-2010 entry regardless of whether that person is already in the U.S. or in another country.

Diversity Visa (DV) - Green Card Lottery Basics

The DV program provides up to 55,000 Diversity Visas each fiscal year to natives from countries with low rate of immigration to the United States, which means sending less than 50,000 immigrants over the last five years. For DV-2009, the following counties are NOT eligible:

BRAZIL, CANADA, CHINA (mainland-born), COLOMBIA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, ECUADOR, EL SALVADOR, GUATEMALA, HAITI, INDIA, JAMAICA, MEXICO, PAKISTAN, PHILIPPINES, PERU, POLAND, RUSSIA, SOUTH KOREA, UNITED KINGDOM (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and VIETNAM. Persons born in Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and Taiwan are eligible.

To enter the DV-2009 lottery, you must be born in an eligible country (see exceptions in the instructions) and meet the education or work experience requirement (generally high school or above). There is also strict requirement for digital photos of you and your dependents. All qualified entries will be randomly selected by a computer program. Winners will be notified by mail (never by email) between May and July 2008, and will receive further instruction and fee information associated with the immigration process. Individuals not selected in the drawing will NOT receive any notification.

One individual may submit only one entry, and multiple submissions will automatically disqualify all entries, regardless of who submitted them.

Before proceeding to completing the DV forms, make sure you have read the instructions carefully and have all information available, including: full name, date of birth, city of birth, country of birth, country of eligible or chargeability, entry photos, mailing address, country of current residency, as well as information of your spouse and all children.
