    I have read that the child of a parent in the US on F-1 visa is allowed to attend public school on F-2 dependent visa but it’s unclear whether the parent of that child has to pay tuition or can attend the public school free of charge.     • My understanding is that an F-2 student would be able to attend public primary/secondary schools (high school or below) just like other residents. Fee is minimal since it is public education. As a comparison, an F-1 student attending high school (no elementary school for F1) must pay full tuition.

      • Thank you for your response. Actually I have already contacted both the high school and the school district. I was told by the high school that the student would be required to pay full tuition on an F-2 visa. When I called the school district, they didn’t even know what an F-2 visa was! Any suggestions on where to go from here? Thank you

        • The law governing this issue is “Section 625 of Public Law 104-208.” You can try google it for more information. It states that F-1 students attending public schools must pay full tuition (along with other restrictions), but dependents of long-term nonimmigrants are not restricted by the new provisions.
